WAKE UP! expresses gratitude to the political parties DUI, DUA, NDU and NA for their support in the campaign against the decision of the Government to build an Orthodox Church at the location where the house of the Albanian nobelist Mother Theresa used to be in the centre of Skopje. The fact that the Church would be build with tax payers money adds to our frustration. The leaders of the above mentioned parties have demonstrated a high national, human and political sense and we highly appreciate it. We hope to jointly stop the sistematic campaign of destroying all Albanian elements from the capital. |

Civic Movement Wake Up! calls upon the citizens, civil society, political parties, MPs, councilors in the municipality assembly of Skopje and others to join our peaceful protest AGAINST the idea of the Government to build a Church at the central square of Skopje. SATURDAY, 09 February 2008, 12:00 hrs, central square of Skopje We are against because: only a memorial house of Mother Theresa belongs at that location; because the Church and the State are divided by the Constitution, because there are many areas in immediate need of budget money, because Skopje is a multiethnic, multicultural and multireligious city, because of urban reasons, because of equality between the communities in Macedonia, because the Church is to be build with tax money of people of other religious beliefs, to avoid insults against the citizens who belong to other religions, because the decision was made without a public debate, because the decision is in absolute contradiction with the spirit of tolerance between the communities, religions and cultures, etc. |

Civic Movement WAKE UP! expresses concern and deep regrets in relation to the hastened decision of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on building an orthodox Church in the central square of its capital Skopje.
Our concerns grow with regards to the fact that the chosen location represents the place of birth of Mother Theresa, the house of the nobel family Bojaxhiu, which has offered shelter and hope to many people in need and where the noble spirit of Gonxhe was cultivated. This house, which nowadays is only marked by a memorial plaque, should be rebuild with its entire symbolic of the greatness it comprises. Instead of this act, which would have been logical and meaningful, an absurd proposal is being offered to completely change the spirit of this place, which launched the universal message of eternal love across the world. The house would offer repose and inspiration for people from all sides of the world and would represent a universal center and peregrine point of destination. |
