Civic Movement Wake Up! Alerts

Since it’s establishment, Wake Up! adamantly acted against violence and notably against the use of weapons by civilians. In this regard, Civic Movement Wake Up! in some cases strived to organize meetings with particularly Albanian political leaders with a goal of alleviation of a irritated atmosphere and offering contribution for integration of our society in European family.

We remind the representatives of the people that we elected them to use the Parliament for debating on our rights and not use it as a boxing ring. In the most significant year for Albanians, when Kosovo is expected to become independent and an difficult diplomatic battle is being conducted, we the Albanians from Macedonia, led by our MPs, should proudly provide our contribution together with our allies from the Unites States and Europe, to achieve an independent Kosovo. We consider that opponents to the positive processes of the Albanians in the region are close in achieving their goal by causing intra-ethnic tensions and thus we ask the MPs to become aware of the circumstances and not to contribute to the anti Albanian script.

Also, Civic Movement Wake Up! appeals to all Albanian political parties, civil society, religious unions etc. to engage maximally in order to calm down the situation and to promote the civic and democratic values of the Albanian nation and to prove that we belong with western democracies, European Union and NATO.

Furthermore we strongly condemn attacks and prevention of the journalists to perform their duties. Freedom of speech is a pillar of democratic values of every society and decisively we ask such incidents not to happen in the future.

Civic Movement “Wake Up!and Fans Group „Shvercerat Shkup“ strongly condemn the tendentious warning for the fans of FC Bolton Wanderers from England not to visit the Municipality of Çair on the occassion of the UEFA Cup qualifying match between FC Rabotnicki Kometall and FC Bolton Wanderers, which will be played at the Skopje city stadium.

Image

For several years now, the Municipality of Çair has been hosting the Macedonian national team during its training sessions for the qualifying matches and has hosted the under 21 national team. An excellent example is the qualifying match between the national teams of England and Macedonia (under 21) held at the Çair stadium on 5 September 2003, where the Enland national team and fans were very appreciatve of the welcoming and tradiotional respect presented by the citizens. The management of the senior team was on the stands of the stadium, led by Manager Swen Goran Ericsson, and applauded the audience in Çair for a correct behaviour.

We call upon the authorities to act concretly on stoping the negative campaign for the situation in the Municipality of Çair and we would like to emphasize that despite the tendentious campaign, foreign visitors prefere to visit the Old Town, Iliryan Castle, etc, all on the left side of the city. Wake Up! avails itself to welcome the English fans and to organize a friendly football match between the English fans and the fans Shvercerat Shkup in the spirit of respect and appreciation for the English nation.

Memorandum to UNESCO

Friday, 13 July 2007

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Albanian civil associations in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, we deem it reasonable to address you through this memorandum, by evaluating your holy mission in preserving the cultural heritage in all UN participating states. It has been more than four months since the Albanian non-governmental organizations in Macedonia appeal to the Macedonian government regarding the way on how the archeological excavation is being carried out in Skopje and Ohrid fortresses.

ImageImageImage

Please allow us to explain our concern: we believe that the hitherto archeological expeditions conducted in the Macedonia’s grounds were conducted with political background. Their intention was to hide the traces of the Albanian cultural heritage. Since we lost confidence due to the previous archeological researches, conducted during the socialism era and the transition period, we deem that the future expeditions should be carried out with certified experts of the Dardan and Illyrian period.

Following the information that the individuals, who plotted the attack on Fort Dix Army Base, included persons with national origins from Turkey, Jordan, and Macedonia, Civic Movement WAKE UP! wishes to express its shock over the appalling news of the planned terror act on Fort Dix. We strongly condemn violence and terrorist activities perpetrated in the name of religion. Terrorism in any form has no religion, nationality or justification. Also, we congratulate the US law enforcement authorities for their swift apprehension of the conspirators, thereby preventing a possible tragedy.

            ImageImageImage

Further, the planning of this heinous act evokes an acute sense of grief for the Albanian people. During the war in Kosovo, Fort Dix was a shelter for the Albanian victims of the Serbian regime. The U.S. authorities and institutions helped Albanian refugees from Kosovo and the people of Fort Dix provided a sanctuary for about 14,000 Kosovar refugees, who were brought to the United States during the bloody ethnic conflict here in the late 1990s and in the early part of this decade. The refugees were provided numerous services and assistance to begin their new life in America. For this we hold them in high regard. Wake Up! is relieved that this tragedy was avoided and ask that those who sought to harm innocent American service men and women be brought to justice immediately.
